Medical Boarding

At Animal Hospital of Nicholasville, our boarding services are designed with one priority in mind—your pet’s health, safety, and comfort while you’re away.

We offer medical boarding for pets who need a higher level of care, including those requiring daily medications, monitoring, or a more controlled environment. This allows you to travel with confidence, knowing your pet is being cared for by a trained veterinary team.

Care You Can Feel Confident In

Our team is experienced in caring for pets with a variety of medical needs, including:

  • Daily medications (oral or injectable)

  • Diabetes management

  • Post-surgical or restricted activity care

  • Ongoing medical conditions requiring monitoring

Because we are a medical facility, your pet is observed by trained staff who can recognize changes quickly and respond appropriately.

A Calm, Comfortable Environment

While we are not a large recreational boarding facility, we focus on providing a safe, low-stress environment tailored to each pet’s needs.

  • Dogs are taken outside 2–3 times daily

  • Cats enjoy daytime access to a dedicated cat room

  • Comfortable bedding is provided for all pets

  • Soft-sided hideaways are available for more timid cats

Our team makes sure each pet receives individual attention, comfort, and care throughout their stay.

Food, Comfort, and Routine

We provide:

  • Purina EN Intestinal diet for both dogs and cats

  • You are always welcome to bring your pet’s regular food, treats, or bedding to help maintain their normal routine. (Please note that personal items may need to be laundered if soiled and may still be in the wash at pick-up.)

Health & Safety Requirements

To protect all pets in our care, we require:

  • Current vaccinations

    • Dogs: Rabies, Distemper/Parvovirus, Bordetella

    • Cats: Rabies, Upper Respiratory

  • A negative fecal exam prior to boarding

We recommend vaccines be updated at least two weeks prior to boarding when possible. If needed, vaccines and fecal testing can be performed during your pet’s stay.

For added protection, all boarding pets receive a Capstar® dose prior to going home to ensure they leave flea-free.

Planning Your Pet’s Stay

If your return plans change, please let us know as soon as possible so we can adjust care appropriately.

The Right Fit for Your Pet

Our boarding is best suited for pets who benefit from medical oversight and a quieter, structured environment. If your pet requires daily medications, monitoring, or specialized care, this setting allows them to stay safe and supported while you’re away.
